Ingredients
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or low-fat)
1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Fresh blueberries, sliced strawberries, or banana for topping
Granola or nut butter for topping (optional)Instructions
- Add the oats: Place the rolled oats into a mason jar or airtight container with at least a 16-ounce capacity
- Add the yogurt: Spoon the Greek yogurt directly on top of the oats
- Pour in the milk: Pour the milk over the yogurt and oats
- Mix in extras: Add the chia seeds, honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt
- Stir well: Stir everything together until fully combined, making sure no dry oats remain at the bottom
- Cover and refrigerate: Seal the jar with a lid and place it in the fridge for at least 6 hours, or overnight
- Check the consistency: In the morning, open the jar and stir. Add a splash of milk and stir again if the oats look too thick
- Add your toppings: Pile on fresh fruit, granola, or a drizzle of nut butter right before eating
- Serve cold or rest: Eat straight from the jar cold, or let it sit on the counter for five minutes if you prefer it slightly less chilled
Notes
Use old-fashioned rolled oats only. Instant oats turn mushy and steel-cut oats stay too hard.
For a dairy-free version, use coconut yogurt or almond yogurt and your preferred plant-based milk.
The oats keep in the fridge for up to 4 days in a sealed jar. Add toppings right before eating.
For a blueberry overnight oats recipe variation, stir a handful of fresh blueberries directly into the jar before refrigerating.
If you prefer overnight oats without yogurt, replace the yogurt with an extra 1/4 cup of milk and one tablespoon of almond butter.
Do not freeze. The yogurt separates and the texture becomes grainy after thawing.Nutrition
